Why I Use Exparel in Every Breast and Tummy Tuck Surgery

When it comes to surgical recovery, pain management plays a huge role in how quickly and comfortably patients bounce back. That’s why I use a medication called Exparel in all my breast and tummy tuck surgeries — it’s a game-changer in post-op care.
What Is Exparel?
Exparel is a long-acting local anesthetic, similar to lidocaine, but with one major advantage: it can provide pain relief for up to three days after surgery. That means my patients wake up after surgery with less discomfort and a smoother start to recovery .
Better Pain Control Without Heavy Narcotics
One of the best things about Exparel is that it reduces the need for traditional narcotic pain medications, which often come with unpleasant side effects like:
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Grogginess
By controlling pain at the source — where the surgery happens — Exparel helps patients:
- Feel more comfortable
- Breathe more easily
- Get out of bed and move around much sooner
This is a huge step forward compared to the “old days” of recovery dominated by opioids.
How I Use Exparel in Surgery
I inject Exparel after the patient is asleep, directly into the tissues involved in the surgery. Whether it’s a breast augmentation, lift, or tummy tuck, this step helps manage pain right from the start. My goal is to make your recovery not just faster, but more pleasant overall.
Have You Heard of Exparel?
If you’ve already heard about Exparel — or had it used during a previous surgery — I’d love to know your thoughts.
