Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce redundant, elongated, or asymmetric labial tissue, often caused by genetics, aging, or childbirth, to improve comfort and genital appearance.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the length or asymmetry of the labia minora (the “inner lips”) to improve function, aesthetics, or both. It is commonly performed to relieve symptoms such as discomfort with clothing, physical activity, or intimacy, and to create a more balanced appearance. Many patients also choose to combine labiaplasty with clitoral hood reduction to address excess tissue in that area and further enhance symmetry.

If desired, labiaplasty can also include rejuvenation of the labia majora (“outer lips”), either through reduction or volume enhancement with fat transfer. Every procedure is individualized to your unique anatomy, symptoms, and goals.

01

Preparing for Labiaplasty

Choosing labiaplasty—or any genital aesthetic procedure—is a personal and often intimate decision. During your consultation, Dr. Aimé will take the time to understand your specific concerns and goals in a respectful and professional setting. She will review your medical history, perform a physical exam, and discuss whether you may also benefit from procedures like clitoral hood reduction or labia majora rejuvenation for optimal balance.

Photos may be taken for your confidential medical chart to assist with surgical planning. If you choose to move forward, you’ll have a preoperative appointment to finalize the treatment plan, ask questions, and receive detailed instructions. Dr. Aimé may also recommend adjusting certain medications or supplements in the weeks prior to surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding. Smoking or vaping should be discontinued at least six weeks before and after surgery to support proper healing.

Labiaplasty Procedure

Labiaplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia in the office, though general anesthesia is an option depending on your preferences or if combined with other procedures. Numbing medication is injected into the treatment area to ensure comfort during and after surgery.

Depending on your anatomy and goals, either the trim technique (which removes excess along the labial edge) or the wedge technique (which preserves the natural edge while removing a central segment) will be used. A clitoral hood reduction is often performed at the same time to maintain proportion and improve symmetry.

If desired, fat transfer can be performed to enhance volume in the labia majora. All incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures that do not require removal.

03

Recovering from Labiaplasty

Recovery from labiaplasty is generally well tolerated. Swelling, bruising, and mild to moderate discomfort are common for the first few days, and often managed effectively with long-acting numbing medication, anti-inflammatories, and prescribed pain medications.

You’ll be advised to:

  • Avoid sexual intercourse and tampon use for 6 weeks
  • Avoid submerging in water (baths, hot tubs, pools) for about 4–6 weeks
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise or activities that increase blood pressure to the area for 2–4 weeks
  • Resume showering after 48 hours, using gentle hygiene

Due to these activity restrictions, many patients prefer to schedule labiaplasty in the cooler months.

Most patients are able to return to light daily activities within a few days, and return to work within 3–7 days, depending on their comfort and job demands. Swelling may persist for several weeks, but final results continue to refine over 2–3 months as the tissue heals and softens.

"Dr. Aime is such an amazing Doctor. She was the first Surgeon I've been to and I don't think I could ever see another. I was so nervous going into my appointment, but she made sure I felt comfortable and safe. I'm also very happy with my results. I highly recommend her services."

“I recently underwent a submentoplasty procedure performed by the incredibly talented plastic surgeon, Dr Aimé. My decision to have submentoplasty was not taken lightly and Dr Aimé made sure to thoroughly explain the entire procedure to me during our consultation.”
