Neck Liposuction

Neck liposuction removes excess fat beneath the chin and along the lower face to enhance jawline definition and improve the overall contour of the neck.

What is Neck Liposuction?

Over time, the face and neck can accumulate excess fat that softens the definition between the chin, jawline, and neck — creating a “double chin” or a less sculpted profile. Neck liposuction, also known as submental or chin liposuction, targets this area by gently removing unwanted fat to reveal the natural angles, shadows, and definition of the lower face.

This highly targeted procedure enhances the transition from face to neck, creating a cleaner, more youthful silhouette. It can be performed alone or combined with skin tightening treatments, chin augmentation, or other facial procedures to further refine your appearance and balance your features.

Preparing for Neck Liposuction

Your journey begins with a personal consultation with Dr. Victoria Aimé, where you’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, review your medical history, and explore your expectations for neck liposuction. Dr. Aimé will carefully evaluate your candidacy by assessing your overall health, skin elasticity, fat distribution, and neck anatomy to ensure the procedure is right for you.

During this visit, she’ll explain the treatment options, surgical techniques, and any associated risks in detail, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and feel fully informed. If you decide to move forward, a surgical date will be scheduled.

Neck liposuction can be performed either in-office under local anesthesia or at a surgery center under general anesthesia, depending on your comfort level and the complexity of your case. Prior to surgery, you may be asked to undergo lab work or obtain medical clearance from your primary care provider. Certain medications or supplements may need to be paused to reduce the risk of bleeding. Additionally, it’s essential to stop smoking or using nicotine products at least four weeks before and after surgery to support proper healing. Maintaining a healthy diet and consistent exercise routine in the lead-up to surgery will also help optimize your results and recovery.

Neck Liposuction Procedure

Neck liposuction is a straightforward and highly effective procedure designed to sculpt and define the neckline and jawline. It can be performed comfortably in-office under local anesthesia (while awake) or in a surgical facility under general anesthesia, based on your preferences and treatment plan.

The procedure begins with the placement of small, hidden incisions — typically under the chin and just beneath the ears — to allow discreet access. A specialized tumescent solution (a mix of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine) is infused into the treatment area to numb the tissues, reduce bleeding, and make fat removal easier.

Using a slender, hollow tube called a cannula, Dr. Aimé gently breaks up and removes the excess fat with smooth, controlled motions. She carefully sculpts the neck and jawline to create a natural, refined contour. The incisions are generally left open to allow drainage, minimizing fluid buildup.

After the procedure, light dressings and a chin/neck compression garment are applied to support your new contours. You’ll be monitored briefly in a recovery area before being released to go home the same day. Your first follow-up appointment is typically scheduled for about one week post-procedure to check your healing and progress.

03

Recovering from Neck Liposuction

Recovery from neck liposuction is typically quick and well-tolerated. Some bruising and swelling are expected in the first several days, and Dr. Aimé will provide guidance to manage these symptoms effectively. A chin/neck compression garment should be worn continuously for the first 48 hours, then at night for an additional two weeks to help minimize swelling and support the skin during healing.

Most patients manage post-operative discomfort with over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen. You can generally return to normal daily activities within a few days, and resume exercise or strenuous activity after 2 to 4 weeks, based on how your body is healing.

Most individuals are able to return to work within 2 to 7 days, depending on their comfort level and the nature of their job. As the weeks progress, swelling continues to subside, the small incisions fade into near invisibility, and your jawline and neck take on a refined, sculpted appearance. Full results typically become more visible over several months as healing completes.
