Neurotoxin (Botox & Dysport)
Relax wrinkles and refresh your expression with precise neurotoxin treatments like Botox or Dysport—subtle, effective, and quick.

Neurotoxin treatments, including well-known options like Botox®, Dysport®, Daxxify®, Letybo® and Jeuveau®, are non-surgical injectable solutions used to temporarily relax facial muscles. These treatments soften the appearance of dynamic wrinkles—lines formed by repeated facial expressions—creating a smoother, more refreshed appearance. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and requires no downtime.
What you need to know
Every procedure and treatment we offer is thoughtfully designed to meet your unique goals, lifestyle, and anatomy. Below, you’ll find key details about what to expect—from how the procedure works to recovery guidance and ideal candidacy—so you can feel informed, confident, and empowered at every step of your journey.
Neurotoxin injections (also called neuromodulators or commonly referred to just as Botox) work by gently blocking nerve signals to the muscles that cause expression lines. Common areas treated include the forehead, frown lines (glabella), crow’s feet, the brows and sometimes areas around the jaw or neck for slimming or therapeutic purposes (such as TMJ relief or neck bands).
The treatment process includes:
- A brief consultation to assess your goals and facial anatomy
- A series of precisely placed injections, typically taking less than 15 minutes
- Minimal discomfort with no anesthesia required
- No downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities immediately
Results typically begin to appear within 3–10 days and last about 3 months
- Smooths fine lines and dynamic wrinkles
- Prevents deeper lines from forming over time
- Quick, in-office treatment with no downtime
- Subtle, natural-looking results when done correctly
- Can be used therapeutically for concerns like jaw tension, migraines, or excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Neurotoxin treatments are ideal for individuals who:
- Want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Are noticing early signs of aging or want to take a proactive, preventative approach
- Desire natural-looking results without surgery or downtime
- Are in good overall health with realistic expectations
- Are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or diagnosed with certain neuromuscular disorder
Whether you’re looking for a refresh or refining your existing routine, neurotoxins offer a safe and effective solution with consistently reliable outcomes.

Botox is a type of neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes targeted muscles to smooth wrinkles and prevent expression lines. Other popular brands include Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, Daxxify® and Letybo®.
Botox blocks the nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. When these muscles are relaxed, the overlying skin appears smoother and wrinkles are softened.
Common treatment areas include:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (between the brows or “11s”)
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
- Bunny lines (on the nose)
- Lip lines (“smoker’s lines”)
- Chin dimpling
- Neck bands
- Masseter muscles (for jaw slimming or teeth grinding)
The average duration of effect for Botox is approximately 3 to 4 months (12–16 weeks), though this can vary based on the area treated, dosage, individual response, and injection technique.
Most patients describe Botox injections as a quick pinch or sting. A fine needle is used, and numbing cream or ice can be applied beforehand if desired, although this is rarely needed.
You may begin to see subtle softening within 2 to 5 days, with full results appearing around 10 to 14 days after treatment.
Not at all when done correctly. Dr. Aimé’s approach prioritizes natural, expressive results — you’ll look like a refreshed version of yourself, not overdone.
There is minimal to no downtime. You may have mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection sites for a few hours. Most people return to normal activities the same day.
Ideal candidates for Botox typically:
- Are in good overall health
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Have mild to moderate facial lines or wrinkles, particularly in areas such as the forehead, between the brows (frown lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Want to prevent future wrinkles from forming by reducing muscle movement
- Have realistic expectations about the treatment’s results and duration
- Are looking for a nonsurgical, quick treatment with minimal recovery time
- May clench or grind their teeth and are interested in Botox for TMJ relief or facial slimming
While Botox is safe and FDA-approved when administered by an experienced provider, there are some people for whom it may not be appropriate. Botox or other neurotoxins are not recommended for individuals who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a neuromuscular disorder (such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome)
- Have a history of allergic reaction to botulinum toxin or ingredients in the formulation (e.g., albumin)
- Have active skin infections, rashes, or cold sores in the treatment area
- Are currently experiencing uncontrolled health conditions or undergoing major medical treatments
- Have bleeding disorders or are taking blood thinners that cannot be paused (Dr. Aimé will provide guidance here)
During your consultation, Dr. Aimé will review your medical history, medications, and treatment goals to ensure that Botox is a safe and effective option for you. If Botox isn’t suitable, she’ll be happy to recommend alternatives that align with your goals.
It depends on the specific neurotoxin product. Dysport®, for example, contains a small amount of cow’s milk protein, and should be avoided in patients with a true milk allergy. Botox®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® do not contain milk proteins, and are generally considered safe alternatives. Dr. Aimé will help select the right product based on your allergy history.
Yes, and it’s an important distinction.
- A milk allergy is an immune response to proteins in milk, such as casein or whey — this is relevant for neurotoxin safety.
- Lactose intolerance, on the other hand, is a digestive issue related to the sugar in milk (lactose). It does not affect your eligibility for Botox or Dysport, and does not pose a risk during treatment.
So, if you are only lactose intolerant, you can safely receive any neurotoxin treatment, including Dysport.
Botox® and Jeuveau® both contain human serum albumin as a stabilizer. If you have a documented allergy to human albumin, you should avoid these products. Xeomin® is a great option in this case, as it does not contain albumin and is considered a “naked” neurotoxin — free of complexing proteins and additives.
Botox is typically priced per unit, and at Metropolitan Plastic Surgery, we charge $14 per unit. The number of units you need depends on the treatment area, your anatomy, and the strength of your facial muscles.
Some practices price Botox by area (e.g., forehead, crow’s feet), but we believe pricing per unit provides more flexibility and transparency — you pay only for what you need.
Here’s a general guide to the average number of units per area:
- Forehead lines: 10–20 units
- Frown lines (between the brows/“11s”): 10–20 units
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes): 8–24 units (4–12 per side)
- Bunny lines (nose): 4–8 units
- Chin dimpling: 4–10 units
- Jawline slimming (masseters): 30–80 units
- Lip flip or gummy smile: 4–8 units
- Neck bands (platysmal bands): 20–40 units
So, for example, treating the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet may require around 30–50 units, which would range from $420–$700.
Dr. Aimé will provide a personalized treatment plan during your consultation, including the number of units recommended and total cost — with no pressure or surprises.
