Neurotoxin (Botox & Dysport)

Neurotoxin treatment is not simply a matter of injecting individual wrinkles. Facial expressions are created by groups of muscles that work together, and differences in muscle strength, brow position, facial anatomy, and natural asymmetry can influence where treatment is placed and how much is used.

During your consultation, your facial movement is evaluated both at rest and with expression. The muscles contributing to the areas that concern you, the strength of those muscles, your existing brow and eyelid position, and the amount of movement you would like to maintain are considered when developing your treatment plan.

Botox and Dysport are different formulations of botulinum toxin used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity. Treatment may be used for areas such as frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, crow's feet, or other areas where muscle activity contributes to the concern. The product, dose, and injection pattern can be adjusted based on your anatomy, the treatment area, and your goals.

Neurotoxin can soften lines caused by repeated facial movement, but it does not treat every type of wrinkle or facial concern. Lines that remain when the face is at rest, skin texture changes, volume loss, and skin laxity may respond incompletely to neurotoxin alone. Identifying what is contributing to the concern helps determine when neurotoxin is useful and when another treatment may make more sense.
