Thigh Lift

A thigh lift helps you achieve a more toned, contoured leg silhouette by removing loose skin and stubborn fat — especially after weight loss or aging.

What is Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and tighten the thighs by removing excess skin and fat. It’s especially beneficial for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or notice loose, sagging skin due to aging or skin laxity.

The procedure targets the inner thighs, outer thighs, or both, depending on your goals and anatomy. By tightening the skin and improving contour, a thigh lift can create a smoother, firmer, and more proportionate appearance, helping patients feel more confident in fitted clothing, swimwear, or simply in their own skin.

01

Preparing for Thigh Lift

Your journey begins with a personal consultation with Dr. Victoria Aimé, where you’ll discuss your aesthetic goals, medical history, and any concerns you may have. Dr. Aimé will perform a physical examination, assess your skin quality and thigh contour, and explain which thigh lift techniques may be most appropriate for your body and goals. You’ll receive a personalized surgical plan and have the opportunity to ask questions about the procedure, recovery, and results.

A second preoperative appointment will take place closer to your surgery date to review the finalized surgical plan, ensure you’re medically cleared, and go over detailed pre- and post-operative instructions.

Depending on your medical history, lab work or clearance from your primary care provider may be required. Certain medications or supplements may need to be paused or adjusted in the weeks leading up to surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding. Importantly, smoking and all nicotine products should be discontinued at least 6 weeks before and after surgery, as nicotine significantly impairs healing and increases the risk of complications.

Thigh Lift Procedure

Thigh lift surgery can be performed in several ways depending on the location and severity of excess skin and fat. Dr. Aimé will recommend the technique that best fits your anatomy and desired results:

  • Mini (Short Scar) Thigh Lift: Best for patients with moderate laxity in the upper third of the thigh. A discreet incision is placed in the groin crease, resulting in minimal visible scarring and a shorter recovery time.
  • Vertical Thigh Lift: Ideal for patients with significant inner thigh laxity, this approach uses a vertical incision along the inner thigh to remove a larger area of excess skin.
  • Spiral Thigh Lift: A more comprehensive technique that targets the inner, outer, front, and back of the thighs. This method is especially beneficial for patients with substantial weight loss and skin laxity extending to the buttocks and hips.

In most cases, liposuction is performed first to reduce excess fat and improve contour, followed by surgical skin excision. Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures, and a light compression dressing is applied to support the tissue during early healing.

Recovering from Thigh Lift

Recovery from a thigh lift varies by individual but generally follows a structured progression. In the first several days, you can expect moderate swelling, bruising, and soreness, which are typically well controlled with anti-inflammatory medications, pain relief, and by keeping your legs elevated on pillows to minimize swelling.

Dressings are usually changed once daily until your incisions are well healed. Dr. Aimé may recommend wearing a compression garment to reduce swelling and support the surgical area. Any surgical tape or external suture knots are typically removed at your one- or two-week follow-up appointment.

Showering is permitted 24–48 hours after surgery, depending on your healing progress. You’ll be encouraged to resume gentle daily activities within a few days, with most patients returning to work within 1–2 weeks. Strenuous activities and exercise are typically resumed between 4 to 6 weeks post-op, depending on your comfort level and healing progress.

Once your incisions are fully healed, Dr. Aimé will discuss scar care strategies, including massage, silicone therapy, and sun protection, to help minimize their appearance over time.

"I would highly recommend Dr. Aime. She is absolutely fantastic and truly cares about her work and her patients."

“I recently underwent a submentoplasty procedure performed by the incredibly talented plastic surgeon, Dr Aimé. My decision to have submentoplasty was not taken lightly and Dr Aimé made sure to thoroughly explain the entire procedure to me during our consultation.”
