Prior to your procedure, you will meet with Dr. Aimé to review the surgical plan and answer any questions you have. You may need to have labs done or see your primary care physician prior to surgery. Some medications or supplements may be adjusted in the weeks leading up to surgery to decrease the risk of bleeding. Smoking should be stopped 4 weeks prior to and following surgery. Lastly, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
This procedure can be performed either local or general anesthesia. Numbing medication, called tumescent, is injected into the area to be liposuctioned. Several small incisions are then made under each ear lobe and under the chin. A small tube, called a cannula, is then inserted to gently remove the fat cells until the neck is nicely contoured. The incisions are closed with small sutures that are removed approximately one week later. Light dressings and a compression garment are then placed.
Swelling and bruising is common and expected after this procedure. To help reduce this and support the neck skin during the healing process, Dr. Aimé will have you wear a chin/neck compression garment. You will be prescribed medication to help alleviate pain and discomfort. You will be able to return to your normal day-to-day activities within several days of the procedure and strenuous activities such as exercise within 2 to 4 weeks of your procedure. Most patients are able to return to work within one week of the procedure. Within several months swelling is nearly resolved, the small incision sites are well concealed and the neck appears slimmer with a more defined jawline.
